cpsia

have you heard of the CPSIA(consumer product safety improvement act)? basically it's an act that will (starting feb.10) require anything intended for children under the age of 12 to be tested for lead, small parts, chemicals, etc. it's a great idea after all these toy recalls and scares. but it affects more than just the big box toy makers. unless the act is amended, it's going to put plenty of etsy sellers out of business. you can read more about it here or here or here. so until i hear that things have changed, i am cleaning out my closet of little pretties and making everything $15 or less! once everything is gone, i am thinking about changing up my little shop. it's a fun hobby and i have a few ideas of what i can do with it that wouldn't be for children. in the meantime, get your little pretties while you can!

I can understand the testing toys for lead bit, but testing clothing is taking it too far. It's just going to drive up prices. :(

that sounds SO silly to me, especially for people like you who make the cutest clothes. they can't stop me from paying you to make little pretties for my daughter someday... it's a free country... at least that's what it used to be.

Hey Sara, if you know who I can write to about this ridiculous act, please let me know. There has to be something they can do to protect people like you who make such wonderful handmade things.

This really burns my britches. Seriously. I feel like doing a parody of this - a mom starts a business called "Little leadies" with a line of children's clothing featuring nothing but the highest quality lead and large buttons that are a choking hazard.

I am grateful for people who try to keep our children safe, but this is taking it too far.

Thanks! Will do. :-D

I don't know how I come up with this stuff, but I think you should have a line of asbestos dresses.
