pretty plantings

on a end of pregnancy energy burst i decided we needed a garden. we thought it could be an experiment to see what we can grow here and if it really was too late to plant... and look! the pumpkins are growing! sure- they may not be done until december, but who knew they would actually work? so if you get hungry after your own garden is long gone, give me a call... you can share in our tomatoes, cantaloupe, cucumber, peppers, carrots, squash, and pumpkins.
all this planitng got me thinking about the value of a garden. richie was practical enough to figure out exactly how many crops we need to harvest from each plant to make it worth the money spent on the plant or seeds. it's not a lot- mostly just one piece from each to equal what we would pay at the store. but we also decided there is more value in the plants than what we reap. even if we harvest nothing, we will have learned from this experience and it will be worth it. it's the same as making things yourself rather than buying. there is value in the work you may put into something above and beyond the monetary. to me, it's worth the extra time and effort because of the meaning that can be found in creating something yourself.

that is so richie! most of those crops should come up pretty easily again next year, did he add that to his equation?

Wow, I am so jealous! can I have your life please? I've been wanting to have a garden for years. Right now the most I can do is a few pots of basil, some rosemary, lemon thyme, mint, and lavender on my porch.

This: "to me, it's worth the extra time and effort because of the meaning that can be found in creating something yourself."

I love.
