my baby turned one and i finally got around to making him a cake (only a week late, but who's counting?) i decided i wasn't up for a full out party, but wanted to make his first cake special. so we called a few friends and i spent the night before frantically throwing it together... i made a chocolate cake using a square pan, then cut that into four and stacked two of those to make his cake. (where the other two pieces of that cake went i just don't know....) then i used the rest of the batter to make cupcakes for everyone else. i used this cake recipe and the frosting recipe was just a buttercream(butter, powdered sugar, salt, vanilla) with crushed oreos added at the end. i printed small pictures of my boy and cut them into circles and taped them to toothpicks for the toppers. then i got the idea to make a tablecloth to match the balloons so i used a 90" wide white cotton from joanns and cut circles in solid colors to match the balloons. i didn't finish the edges of the circles or anything- just sewed around them i think they look cute frayed too! i also made a bib to match the tablecloth, but with smaller circles. i had pictures of him at birth, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 1 year so i hung them on a clothesline above the table. it was fun to see how he has changed! i really need to stop coming up with ideas at the last minute! but i also think this whole working under pressure thing is good for me because until i had only a few hours left, i had no ideas for anything- not even the cake! phew! of course it was all worth it!
p.s. here's my block for today

That was freaking adorable.
Good golly! "I only had a few hours, but I made a tablecloth, a bib, a cake, cupcakes, custom cupcake toppers, oh and here's a quilt block I finished"
Girl, you are (crazy) talented. I love it.
nice to meet you
wow.....
cute!!!
Sara, I am so glad that Aimee gave me your contact info. I have a feeling we are going to become very good friends. How old are your little ones? I have two, Zoƫ is five and Eden is turning one in a few weeks.
How can I tell we are going to be good friends? I have been planning Eden's birthday party and I am doing just about everything you did for you son. Photos of her hung in a garland, polka dots, and of course a tutu... :)
So awesome Sara! You are simply amazing!
