have you heard of the CPSIA(consumer product safety improvement act)? basically it's an act that will (starting feb.10) require anything intended for children under the age of 12 to be tested for lead, small parts, chemicals, etc. it's a great idea after all these toy recalls and scares. but it affects more than just the big box toy makers. unless the act is amended, it's going to put plenty of etsy sellers out of business. you can read more about it here or here or here. so until i hear that things have changed, i am cleaning out my closet of little pretties and making everything $15 or less! once everything is gone, i am thinking about changing up my little shop. it's a fun hobby and i have a few ideas of what i can do with it that wouldn't be for children. in the meantime, get your little pretties while you can!

yart sale!

random sewing notes... and cards

ok, so we didn't actually picnic over the weekend. but i did have a chance to do some experimenting for new little pretties to put in the shop... what do you think?
i'm wondering if my own little pretty is getting to the age where skirts are more her thing than dresses. she squealed and exclaimed, "oh thank you so much, mom, you're wonderful!" when i finished this skirt... (where she learned that phrase is beyond me) so i'm really just trying to keep up with my little fashionista.
this other style is my new favorite for dresses. it just hangs so cute and the ties on the shoulders are just charming. the fabric is a vintage sheet i thrifted so it has a nostalgic feel to it. and the quilt in my last post was a christmas gift from richie a couple years ago. actually i decided he was going to give me a quilt kit every year for christmas... it's been fun because i usually pick the quilts out and wrap them and and my only goal is to finish the quilt by the next year. i have to say this was one of my easiest quilts ever and even though it doesn't match anything in my house or even my style, i love it! i love every single piece of fabric in it and even more now because they are all discontinued and hard to find. it's all fabric from denyse schmidt, one of my most favorite designers.
ever since i've actually had a space to sew, it's all i want to do when i have time- you know, late at night or early in the morning... although tonight we have plans to play cards. richie is determined to beat me and has yet to do so at gin rummy. ha! (p.s. richie beats me at literally everything else in life- scrabble, tennis, IQ tests, etc. etc. so i have to gloat.....)

little pretties is one!

guess what today is? my one year anniversary of being little pretties on etsy! it's not the day i listed my first item, but close- so in honor of joining etsy, i am going to highlight other etsy sellers until the actual day i first listed an item. on that day i will have a happy little giveaway! don't know what day i listed my first item last year? check back and you will see!

etsy is such a great idea for anyone who wants to make a living selling what they make. it's a fun outlet to share things you love and find very creative and brilliant people. for example, my friend just opened an etsy shop called critter cuddles with stuffed animal baby blankets she makes. they are so adorable and such a cute idea! it's a super soft blanket with a stuffed animal attached. you just have to see it to get it. i love that you can have both a blanket and a toy but only have to keep track of one thing. and how sweet does this little gorilla look? what a clever etsy seller!
